Soapmasat is a Samish theatre group for children between 10 and 14 years old. They have been working together for five years in the “Tana Kulturskole” (Tana culture school).
In Norway culture schools are run by the municipalities which offer cultural lessons for pupils of primary schools in the afternoon. They participated in a performance of Shakespeare’s "Midsummer Nights Dream" as well as in the opening ceremony of a new sports arena in Tana in 2008 taking part in a circus performance and presenting their selfmade masks.
They also presented the full-length production “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl and “Mission Mac Rell” by Haral Sǽtervold. With these productions they played on different stages of the Samish region.
The groups were chosen to represent Norway on the Nordic Children’s Theatre Festival in July 2009 on the Faeroe Islands. They performed a play of Siri Broch Johansen.
On occasion of their performance a professional actress and Samish singer, Inga Juuso, will be participating. She is one of the best “joiker” in Sápmi. “Joik” is the traditional singing of the Samish people.
Actually we are 17 people on stage.
