Májjá ja Sujujujjá

23 June, 2010 - 14:30 | Ingrid Korb

The group presents a play playing in the Samish underworld.

Májjá, Mihkkal and her grandmother loose their sister Sunná in the wood. Májjá finds money next to a fridge, she enters it and a new world appears. She meets Cakkalakkis who tells her that it is very dangerous there and that Stállu wants to eat her sister. But his wife protects her as she always wished to have a daughter. Cakkalakkis reports to Májjá that Luhttás has asked Sunná to drink blood and therefore Sunná forgets bit by bit who she really is and becomes Luhttás daughter. Thus Májjá has got to hurry to prevent that Sunná drinks some more blood and is completely forgetting her identity.

Additional information about the play:

This play represents the dream of the group “Soapmasat” as the Samish culture adapts to our modern society. The children want to save the old characters of their Samish fairy tales in order to impart old wisdoms. They have the dream that the number of people speaking Sami is growing and it keeps being a strong language spoken everyday. Therefore they decided to perform their production in their native language.
