This fairy tale tells the story of a boy named Jacob who is being penalised by a witch for his arrogance. She casts an evil spell on him by turning him into an ugly dwarf, to the effect that even his own family is unable to recognize him. Follwing his decision to become a cook, Jacob takes up a job at the court of a duke who appreciates his dishes very much. After a couple of years, Jacob is being retranformed into his original figure through a magic herb which was actually meant for seasoning.
Thus, the gist of this fairy tale is that every bad deed - however minor it may be - and every wicked word spoken may result in severe consequences.
In the end, everybody is expected to contemplate on how he likes to be treated by others and should then stick to his own attitude.
