History

The World Festival of Children’s Theatre (WFCT) was first held in 1990.

This worldwide biggest and in its main idea (of regional-transnational encounters as well as the connection of theory and practise) unique theatre festival for children by children was over the years continously developed. It came to be an identity forming element of the city of Lingen and the region Emsland, and, in its radiant effects, reaches an area much bigger than the city of Lingen (Ems). The festival was founded by Norbert Radermacher.

It has its origin in the work of the Center of Theatre Education (Theaterpädagogisches Zentrum der Emsländischen Landschaft e.V. / TPZ Lingen).

In cooperation with the specific world association AITA/IATA (Association International du Théâtre Amateur/International Amateur Theatre Association) the WFCT was held in

  • Antalya/Turkey (1992),
  • Kopenhagen/Denmark (1996),
  • Toyama/Japan (2000),
  • Havanna/Kuba (2004),
  • Moscow/Russia (2008),
  • Stratford/Canada (2016)

since its founding.

The WFCT returns to its place of origin Lingen (Ems), Germany every four years.
